Dear John,

I hope you had a lovely Easter and are looking forward to the brighter months ahead.

Over the last few weeks, I have been out and about across the Borders speaking to many local people and working hard to deliver on your priorities. Here are some of the highlights:

Last week, SNP Government agency Visit Scotland announced that they will close the Visitor Information Centre in Jedburgh.

This decision is deeply unhelpful to efforts by the local community to increase tourism and give visitors a better experience of the Borders.

Join my campaign calling on Humza Yousaf's government to step in and prevent this closure from going ahead.

I have recently been overwhelmed by the number of local people who are extremely concerned at the state of roads across the Borders.

Potholes litter our streets, pavements are crumbling and key roads need investment.

A lack of funding from the SNP Government means that the council cannot fix all the roads and streets that need repairing.

So, I have written to Humza Yousaf to ask that the SNP Government stops wasting taxpayers’ money on endless independence papers and, instead, give the money to councils so they can repair potholes and sort the problems on our streets.

Businesses from across the Borders were recognised at three big awards shows last month.

At the ** 2024 Scottish Countryside Alliance Awards ([link removed])
, Lauder’s Black Bull won best local food and drink, the Gordon Arms won best pub, and Foston’s Fine Meats in Duns won the award for best butcher.

The Gordon Arms Restaurant in the Yarrow Valley received the highly commended award in the Sustainable Business Category at the ** 2024 Scottish Excellence Awards ([link removed])
and The Caddy Mann Restaurant was shortlisted for best restaurant at the Eat Game Awards.

This demonstrates that the Borders is home to some of the best food and drink in the country.

Congratulations again!
