We The Action Volunteer,

Good Afternoon, and welcome to our weekly digest of current volunteer legal projects.

Later this month, on April 25 (4pm ET), we will be celebrating Volunteer Appreciation Month with a virtual event to recognize the amazing work of We The Action volunteers! This will be a chance to meet the WTA Team, hear about the great work of fellow volunteers, and participate in a Q&A with the team. We would love to see you there. Register for the event here!

We have nearly 80 legal projects that need your help:

1—5 HOURS

End Rape On Campus' Road to 501c3

End Rape On Campus

End Rape on Campus (EROC) works to end campus sexual violence through direct support for survivors and their communities; prevention through education; and policy reform at the campus, local, state, and federal levels. They're looking for a lawyer who can assist with applying for 501c3 status by helping with the 1023 form. Currently, they're fiscally sponsored as a Model C project. Tax law experience is required, and lawyers may be barred in any state.

1-5 HOURS

Safeguarding the 2024 Election: The Role for Lawyers

We The Action

Join We The Action and the NYC Bar Association on April 16 at 6 PM ET for a webinar on how to protect our democracy in 2024. Participants will hear from the Election Official Legal Defense Network, The Brennan Center, and former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson. Lawyers may be barred in any state.

Help a Rare Disease Org Provide Phlebotomy Services to Patients

Project 8p Foundation

The Project 8p Foundation works to raise transformative funding for pioneering research into treatments for this complex rare disease, empower a unified community, and accelerate future treatments. They are hoping to provide mobile phlebotomy services to patients, but need a lawyer to help determine if their current agreement protects the foundation while providing these services. This is a remote opportunity, and lawyers may be barred in any state.

1-5 HOURS

Adding Animal Rights Language to a Human Rights Initiative

Simwatachela Sustainable Agricultural and Arts Program [SSAAP]

SSAAP is a grassroots organization working to help rural Africa (Zambia and Sierra Leone) access clean drinking water, food sustainability, and nutrition. They are in need of a lawyer to help update their bylaws to include animal rights in their initiative, in addition to their human rights work. This is a remote opportunity, and lawyers may be barred in any state.

We hope you and your loved ones are healthy and safe.

Best,
The We The Action Team
