Dear friend,

This week marked six months since the siege in Gaza began — one of the deadliest and most destructive conflicts in recent history. Talks of a ceasefire continue to stall, and aid delivery is so severely limited that famine is now imminent.

The conflict has reached the Israel-Lebanon border, threatening the lives of civilians and risking an escalation of violence, forcing more than 91,000 people from their homes.

Mercy Corps team members and partners on the ground are working to deliver aid in Lebanon, and we’re joining with our partners in the international community to call for a permanent ceasefire. Mercy Corps team members distributed food kits, hygiene kids, blankets to displaced families in Southern Lebanon.
Many displaced families fled towns that have since been blown up by airstrikes, destroying homes, schools, and healthcare centers. The growing humanitarian crisis at the border has deprived more than 60,000 children of an education and continues to weaken Lebanon’s economic conditions.

Because thousands of families have been displaced so suddenly, people are forced to find shelter wherever they can. People are living in overcrowded shelters and cramped homes. One man reported that his family of 15 is living in a single room. During the past months, some families have had great difficulty staying warm in the cold winter temperatures and affording basic necessities while being displaced from their jobs.

Mercy Corps and our local partners are distributing urgently needed supplies to displaced families. We’ve provided 1,025 hygiene kits and 5,264 Core Relief Item kits, including mattresses, pillows, and blankets. We’ve also distributed 41,955 hot meals to displaced people in emergency centers and 600 food kits containing a variety of foods, including rice, bulgur, lentils, chickpeas, tuna, tomato paste, and more.

Mercy Corps will continue to bring vital resources, like food, water, and blankets, to families in the region and 40+ countries.

With five months of urgent need on the Israel-Lebanon border, your support has been crucial in delivering aid, addressing the lack of basic necessities, and helping displaced families get shelter. Thank you for being part of our community.

Sincerely,
