PFAW Member, First and foremost, THANK YOU. Thanks to the 10,592 PFAW members who donated online in the month of March, we made our first quarter goal of 2020 … and that’s incredibly important during this challenging time, because American democracy is on the line. Our democracy can survive one term of Trump. Our democracy can survive the coronavirus pandemic. And we’re fighting like hell to make sure that our democracy survives Trump Republicans’ disastrous failure of leadership and opportunistic impulses for power grabs during this crisis. But it’s highly doubtful our democracy can withstand all of these threats compounded by a second Trump term and the continuation of Trump Republicans holding majorities in institutions like the U.S. Senate. During this public health crisis, PFAW is delivering unique value to our supporters and progressives across the country with our best-in-the-business coverage of Trumpism and the Far Right at PFAW’s Right Wing Watch. Our team of reporters is hard at work all day, every day, exposing the conspiracy theories and disinformation spewing from the right-wing fever swamp and Republican Party leaders alike – including Donald Trump, members of his administration, congressional lawmakers, and GOP governors who deny science and endanger their constituents in order to show their loyalty to Trump. This work is absolutely vital, especially at a time when the truth can save lives and rampant disinformation can cost them. The current pandemic is bringing into sharp focus just how dangerous the Right’s propagation of false narratives and conspiracy theories can be. Anthony Fauci – the nation’s leading expert on infectious diseases who has served six presidents of both parties and is arguably the most trusted voice in America right now on the coronavirus pandemic – is now facing DEATH THREATS from the Right Wing thanks to social media conspiracy theories and headlines like the one from the right-wing American Thinker that referred to Fauci as a “Deep-State Hillary Clinton-loving stooge.” Besides tracking and exposing the Right’s response to and exploitation of this crisis, PFAW is hard at work to ensure that the vulnerable communities and individuals who will bear a disproportionate brunt of the health and economic impacts of this crisis are not left behind in the government’s response. That includes making sure the people who need the most relief get it, making sure people are counted in the 2020 census, and making sure that precious resources appropriated by Congress aren’t squandered by Republicans with corporate kickbacks and corrupt self-dealing. And, perhaps most importantly, we’re fighting to ensure that voters are able to cast ballots in the 2020 election and that their votes are secure and counted. That includes expanding options for voters to cast ballots by mail, efforts to combat voter suppression on all fronts, and policies that allow for equitable ballot access for all communities – including those that have been traditionally disenfranchised and those that have unique challenges with vote-by-mail. Then, of course, there’s the work we’ve always done and that we’re still doing to support progressive candidates, fight Trump and Senate Republican’s all out assault on our federal courts, and defeat Trump Republicans up and down the ballot. Election Day is still coming and, as hard as it was to imagine that the stakes could get even higher for this year’s election, they now have gotten higher, without question. NONE of this work could happen without the support of our members like you, friend. Your continued support and activism have never been more critical to the future of our country and the survival of our democracy. Thank you so much for everything. Stay safe, stay healthy, and keep fighting. Best, Michael Keegan, President
