School Nurse Day is May 6, 2020
|
Since 1972, National School Nurse Day has been set aside to recognize school nurses. National School Nurse Day was established to foster a better understanding of the role of school nurses in the educational setting.
The theme this year – School Nurses: Supporting Students in Times of Crisis – reinforces the changing times of 2020. This year, more than ever, all members of our school communities, school nurses included, have been required to take on unprecedented roles and adapt quickly to changes in their jobs. It is reflective of the significant roles school nurses have in the health care of their school communities to help make a healthier place for children and families to learn and grow during this crisis.

Infection Control in the Classroom

Spotting outbreaks, taking action and using disinfectants are important as our four speakers point out and share their expertise in norovirus outbreaks, H1N1, and routine disinfection. Common infections are transmitted by hand contact with contaminated surfaces in the classroom and then touching of the nose, mouth or eyes. The purpose of this session is to enable the learner to become empowered to undertake actions to stop the spread of infectious diseases and to understand the importance of fomites in their spread in the classroom, with interventions that reduce student exposure to pathogens.
