Hi there John,
I hope your week is going well. Mia Stewart-Willis here, Leadership Giving Manager at re:power! I’m back again to introduce you to the first alumni champion for the re:powering our champions annual campaign: Thanh Tran (he/him). This year, we're raising $100,000 to train progressives like Thanh, John; I hope we can count on your contribution.

“As a formerly incarcerated organizer who was recently released from prison, the only organizing community I had was my small bubble of currently and formerly incarcerated advocates. When I trained with re:power for the first time in August 2023, I came looking to improve my skills to serve my people. I not only received those skills, I gained a community.”

Thanh Tran is a Vietnamese and Black Amerasian interdisciplinary artist and racial justice organizer from Sacramento, California. While incarcerated, he co-founded the podcast ‘Uncuffed’; co-founded the incarcerated film production team ‘ForwardThis Productions’; and co-founded Ella Baker Center’s Inside/Outside Fellowship — which amplifies currently incarcerated organizers with paid compensation, curriculum and access to local coalitions and stakeholders. Today, Thanh is Director of ‘Finding Má’, a personal feature length documentary. He is also the Policy Associate at the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights. He currently sits on three Community Advisory Councils: the New Breath Foundation, Asian Prisoner Support Committee, and ‘Uncuffed’.

re:power provides the training and coaching necessary to empower BIPOC progressives like Thanh to create change in their communities. A champion is only as effective as their training and re:power aims to train 2,900 candidates, activists, and organizers to brave the political landscape in 2024.
As I mentioned in my first email, we’ll need a championship mentality and $100,000 to support our programs. Will you help us transform BIPOC changemakers like Thanh into progressive champions by giving this year, John? Click the button below and donate today. |
Keep an eye on your inbox to find out more about Thanh’s re:power story and his organizing work throughout our annual campaign. I’ll be in touch again soon to introduce our next alumni champion. Stay tuned! In Solidarity, Mia S. Willis (they/them) Leadership Giving Manager |
