Dear Supporter,
Would you believe that in the middle of this coronavirus crisis, members of Parliament are getting a pay raise?
It’s true. Legislation in place means that every year on April 1, MPs, as well as senators and the governor general, automatically get a pay raise.
With millions of Canadians out of work during this crisis, that’s completely outrageous.
Parliament isn’t sitting right now so they missed their chance to pass new legislation in time to cancel this pay hike like we told them to last week.
But they can still refuse this raise by donating it to charity.
To their credit, that’s what four MPs – John Brassard, Doug Shipley, Earl Dreeshen and Blaine Calkins – have already done.
But that still leaves 334 MPs, 105 Senators and the governor general.
Can you take two minutes to email your MP and tell them to donate their 2020 pay raise to charity? Let’s see how many of them have decency to do the right thing. You can look up your MP and their email address here:

Could you go the extra mile and send a message to senators as well as the governor general? Their contact info can be found here:
https://sencanada.ca/en/contact-information/

In a crisis, it’s tempting for politicians to brush off something like this as minor. But doing the right thing is always a big deal. Politicians work for us and we need to tell them this isn’t the right time for them to take a raise.
Thanks for all you do (and stay safe!)
Sincerely,
- Aaron, Shannon, Todd and the rest of the CTF team.
