An annual briefing that focuses on providing policy and legislative updates, share best practices directly from our communities and provide a current state of affairs in the movement to end violence. The summit highlights the unique tribal, state and federal perspectives and challenges that our New Mexico tribal communities face in regards to addressing and responding to violence against our Native women and children. Travel Application As part of our commitment to supporting the communities we serve, we are pleased to announce we are able to provide scholarships to Member organizations and service providers in our service region. These scholarships are intended to support the professional development of individuals and organizations working to address violence against Native women in our tribal communities. They can be used to cover the costs of lodging and mileage associated with attending Tribal Leaders Summit. We recognize the critical role that Member organizations and service providers play in addressing violence against Native women, and we believe that investing in their professional development will ultimately help to strengthen our collective impact in the community. To apply for a scholarship, interested individuals and organizations can submit an application: Apply for Travel Scholarship Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and scholarships will be awarded based on the merits of the application and the availability of funds. We are excited to provide this support and look forward to supporting the professional development of our valued partners and service providers in the fight against violence against Native women. NOTE: If you are applying for the traveling scholarship, you must already be registered and committed to attending the 10th Annual Tribal Leaders Summit. The goal Is to gather all our New Mexico tribal leaders together for another year focused on sharing field expertise, promising practices and fostering conversations that seek to increase the public safety of our Native women and children in New Mexico. COVID-19 Mitigation During TLS The Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women (CSVANW) understands that Indigenous peoples have been disproportionately affected by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Covid-19 poses a critical health threat to Indigenous peoples and has exacerbated pre-existing inequalities and systemic racism. This has continued to create challenges such as inadequate access to health care. Due to this unfortunate socioeconomic consequence, Indigenous children, peoples with disabilities and elders have been hit particularly hard. According to the Human Rights Council, Indigenous peoples are more likely to die due to the contraction of the Coronavirus. As Indigenous leaders and advocates it is imperative that we continue to take action and precautions to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 in our communities. Therefore, in order to host a safe environment for our 2024 Tribal Leaders Summit, CSVANW has decided to implement mandatory mask wearing during the 2-day event. Before the Summit Testing before attendance Packing hand sanitizers (CSVANW will also have PPE available at registration) During the Summit Mandatory mask wearing Social distancing Hand washing (CSVANW will have air purifier equipment in shared spaces) After the Summit Reporting positive COVID-19 results Or in close proximity of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 It is important to remember that Community Care is a shared responsibility.
