Hello friend,

Ghana is on the frontline of the global debt crisis. The West African country has paid $7 billion in interest payments alone to greedy lenders since 2010. Millions of people are being denied justice as the country struggles to pay for education, health, or respond to the climate crisis.

Ghanaian debt campaigner Bernard Anaba has been speaking to us about the daily impact on people’s lives.

“The debt crisis has led to a higher cost of living, escalating food prices, high cost of transportation, high cost of water and electricity, it’s making life very difficult for people. People barely get two meals a day… lives are being destroyed.”

But people like Bernard are fighting back, will you stand with him?

While people are struggling to pay for food and services, greedy lenders are choosing to make huge profits, by chasing debt payments from Ghana.

This is deeply unjust.

But a new law would make private lenders cancel some of Ghana’s debt. And with 90% of the debts owed by lower income countries to banks, hedge funds and oil traders governed by UK law, we could have a real impact by bringing in a new debt justice law here in the UK.

And the timing couldn’t be more urgent, Ghana is negotiating right now with its lenders.

Can you watch and share Bernard’s words, explaining how a new law could help Ghana and other countries in debt crisis? And help win debt cancellation?

Last week we emailed you with the news that Zambia has finally agreed a debt cancellation deal with creditors. This is great news! Now we need to make sure Ghana and every country in crisis can get debts cancelled.

Since we launched our campaign for a new debt justice law, we’ve had an amazing response. Almost 3000 of you have signed our petition calling for action, but we need thousands more to join the campaign.

That’s why it’s crucial we share this video about the real impact of the debt crisis.

Thank you for your time.

In solidarity
