Message from the
President
April is Black Women's History Month, and NJYD is proud to
celebrate and recognize Black women's outstanding achievements and
contributions to American society.
There is no end to Black women's impact in this country. We
are inventors, creatives, activists, educators, elected officials,
doctors, lawyers, and so much more. From Dr. Dorothy Irene Height, who
helped found the National Women's Political Caucus, to Shirley
Chisholm, who was the first African American woman elected to the U.S.
Congress, to Constance Baker, who was the first African American
Federal Court judge, Black women have been breaking barriers and
fighting for a just and equal world.
This month, we celebrate how Black women have shaped this
world and express our appreciation for the sacrifices made to ensure a
better tomorrow. To the Black women leaders throughout the Garden
State, thank you for sharing your brilliance and defying all
odds.

April Young Dem of the
Month
Congratulations to our April Young Dem of
the Month, Tyra Gibbs!
Tyra is a graduate of Kean
University, where she holds a Master of Public Administration.?
Currently, she serves as the Legislative Director in the Office of
Assemblywoman Shavonda E. Sumter (LD-35), where her expertise
contributes to shaping impactful policies.
Driven by her passion for
criminal justice reform, social justice, and advocacy in urban
communities, Tyra relocated to North Jersey to pursue her career
aspirations. Her dedication to making a positive and sustainable
impact on society is evident in her role as an executive assistant
with the New Jersey Young Democrats. In this capacity, she eagerly
looks forward to empowering the lives of others and contributing to
the betterment of our community.
Tyra Gibbs is an inspiring
force in the realm of public service, and we are overjoyed to have her
on our team! Join us in celebrating Tyra's achievements and expressing
gratitude for her commitment to creating positive change in our
society!
