Daily Docket — Tuesday, April 2
Here are some Trumpdates.
* Former President Donald Trump and allies appealed ([link removed]) a decision that allowed Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to remain on the Georgia election subversion case.
* Trump’s former attorney, John Eastman, has officially lost his law license after a California judge recommended ([link removed]) he be disbarred for his efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
Here are some other updates.
* In a win for voters, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected ([link removed]) Washington Republicans' emergency request to block the state from adopting new legislative districts that fairly represent Latino voters. The new map will be in place for the 2024 elections.
* A lawsuit challenging North Carolina voter suppression law Senate Bill 747 can continue, a federal court ruled ([link removed]) after denying a request from lawmakers to dismiss the lawsuit. The challenged law makes it more likely for new voters to have their ballots rejected.
* The Northern District of Texas — the area where Republicans have been accused of filing lawsuits to judge shop, like the mifepristone case before the Supreme Court — said ([link removed]) it will not follow a new advisory rule about random case assignment.
Georgia’s latest voter suppression law could remove even more voters from the rolls ahead of the election, Marc writes in his latest.
* Last week, the Georgia General Assembly passed ([link removed]) a new voter suppression law that makes it easier for individual citizens to challenge others’ voter eligibility en masse.
* Hundreds of thousands of Georgia voters have already been subjected to mass challenges over the past three years and it’s spreading like a virus, Marc explains in his latest piece.
