*Governor Whitmer Makes Appointments to Boards and Commissions*?

*LANSING, Mich. ?* Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the following appointments to the? Michigan Community Corrections Board, Governor's Traffic Safety Advisory Commission, Michigan Citizen-Community Emergency Response Coordinating Council, Michigan Truck Safety Commission, State Survey and Remonumentation Commission, Mental Health Diversion Council, Barrier Free Design Board, State Board of Professional Engineers, State Board of Professional Surveyors, State Board of Architects, Michigan Board of Real Estate Appraisers, Michigan Board of Nursing, Collections Practices Board, and the Michigan Asian American Pacific Affairs Commission.?

Today?s appointees represent Michigan?s young professionals, communities of color, seniors, and more. The appointees announced this week build on Governor Whitmer?s work to ensure appointees reflect Michigan?s diverse population. Sixty percent of appointees are women or people of color, and the Whitmer cabinet is the most diverse in Michigan history.?

_*Michigan Community Corrections Board*_

Gary Davis, of Saginaw, is the executive director of TRICAP, a probation residential center offering an alternative placement option to jail or prison for male or female offenders within the State of Michigan. Davis received his Bachelor of Arts in history from Saginaw Valley State University.?Gary Davis is appointed to represent existing community alternatives program for a term commencing April 2, 2024 and expiring March 31, 2028. Gary Davis succeeds William DeBoer whose term has expired. ?

Brenda Goss Andrews, of Detroit, is retired from the Detroit Police Department with over 30 years of experience. She was also the first female in the police department?s history to administer and control the departments $400 million-dollar budget and $30 million dollars in state and federal grants. Goss Andrews received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Howard University, a Master of Science from Michigan State University, and is a graduate of the 171st class of the FBI National Academy. Brenda Goss Andrews is appointed to represent the general public for a term commencing April 2, 2024 and expiring March 31, 2028. Brenda Goss Andrews succeeds Marlene Davis whose term has expired. ?

Brandon Davis, of Muskegon, is the director of oversight and public accountability for the City of Grand Rapids. Davis received a a Bachelor of Applied Arts from Central Michigan University and a Juris Doctor degree from Wayne State University Law School. Brandon Davis is appointed as chair for a term commencing April 2, 2024 and expiring March 31, 2025.?

The Michigan Community Corrections Board serves in an advisory capacity to the Director of the Michigan Department of Corrections and is charged with approving many components of community corrections programs including: goals, eligibility criteria, program guidelines, program standards and policies, the application process, procedures for funding, and criteria for evaluation.???

_*Governor's Traffic Safety Advisory Commission*_

Jeff King, of Farmington Hills, is the chief of police of the Farmington Hills Police Department.?King received an associate degree in applied science in law enforcement from Macomb Community College, a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from Concordia University, and a Master of Science Administration in leadership from Central Michigan University.?Jeff King is appointed to represent local units of government for a term commencing April 2, 2024, and expiring May 27, 2026. Jeff King succeeds Aubrey Jon Gale?whose term has expired. ?

The Governor's Traffic Safety Advisory Commission shall identify traffic safety challenges, and develop, promote and implement strategies to address those challenges. Specifically, the Commission shall: Develop comprehensive solutions to traffic safety challenges through partnerships with all levels of government and the private sector; Maximize and coordinate the use of existing financial resources, including federal highway safety planning funds administered by the Office of Highway Safety Planning. ?

_*Michigan Citizen-Community Emergency Response Coordinating Council*_?

Chad Vesser, of Traverse City, is an emergency management officer for Michigan 2-1-1. Vesser received a Bachelor of Art in political science from Lake Superior State University, and a Master of Science in public administration from Wayne State University.? Chad Vesser is appointed to represent individuals with technical expertise related to emergency response for a term commencing April 2, 2024, and expiring December 31, 2027. Chad Vesser succeeds Megan Anderson whose term expired.?

The Michigan Citizen-Community Emergency Response Coordinating Council (MCCERCC) assists in developing, maintaining, implementing and in supporting and promoting emergency response principles, strategies and practices within governmental agencies and private sector organizations in Michigan.??

_*Michigan Truck Safety Commission*_?

Bill Kotynski, of Howell, is a senior risk consultant at Ryder system Inc. Previously, he served as commander of the investigative unit at the Michigan State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division.?William Kotynski is appointed to represent the general public for a term commencing April 2, 2024, and expiring August 4, 2025. William Kotynski succeeds Kim Kelly who has resigned. ?

The Michigan Truck Safety Commission (MTSC) is the only organization in the nation dedicated to commercial truck driver education and training supported solely by the industry it serves. The Commission is committed to enhancing truck and truck driver safety by providing truck driver education and training, heightening all drivers' awareness of the operational characteristics and limitations of trucks, initiating data collection and research, and supporting enforcement of motor carrier safety laws.???

_*State Survey and Remonumentation Commission*_?

Ami Patel, of Troy, is a manager at Ariana Inc. She also serves as the co-chair of the Pediatric Family Advisory Committee for Corewell Health. Patel received a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from the University of Witwatersrand.?Ami Patel is appointed to represent the general public?for a term commencing April 2, 2024, and expiring October 20, 2027. Ami Patel succeeds Morris Thomas?whose term has expired. ?

The State Survey and?Remonumentation?Commission consults with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs to create and distribute a model county plan that may be adopted by a county with any changes appropriate for that county.?

_*Mental Health Diversion Council*_?

Jessica Taylor, of Detroit, is the executive director for Chance for Life Organization, a comprehensive prison-based transformation model that provides inmates and returning citizens with cognitive restructuring programs.? Jessica Taylor received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration from Cornerstone University.?Jessica Taylor is reappointed to represent community prisoner or jail re-entry programs?for a term commencing April 2, 2024, and expiring January 30, 2028.?

Eric Doeh, of Belleville, is the president and CEO of the Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network. Additionally, he is an adjunct professor for the University of Detroit Mercy Law School and previously served as the deputy chief assistant of the drug task force for the US attorney?s office. Eric Doeh received his Bachelor of Arts in political science and english from the University of Michigan and his Juris Doctor from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. Eric Doeh is reappointed to represent medicaid pre-paid inpatient health plans?for a term commencing April 2, 2024, and expiring January 30, 2028.?

Judge Sara Spencer-Noggle, of Mount Pleasent, is a judge in the 21st Circuit Court Judge of Isabella County. Prior to being appointed to the bench, she served as a public defender for the county. Judge Spencer-Noggle received a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in political science?from Central Michigan University and a Juris Doctor from the Michigan State University College of Law. Judge Sara Spencer-Noggle is reappointed to represent community prisoner or jail re-entry programs for a term commencing April 2, 2024, and expiring January 30, 2028.?

Brad Casemore, of Battle Creek,?is the CEO of Southwest Michigan Behavioral Health. Prior to this, he was the CEO of Venture Behavioral Health. Casemore received his Bachelor of Arts in psychology and sociology as well as his Master of Social Work and Master of Health Services Administration from the University of Michigan. Brad Casemore is reappointed to represent adult service agencies and/or providers from a local community mental health service program?for a term commencing April 2, 2024, and expiring January 30, 2028.?

The Mental Health Diversion Council is an advisory body to the Governor within the Department of Health and Human Services charged to advise and assist in the implementation of a diversion action plan and provide recommendations for statutory, contractual, or procedural changes to improve diversion.????

Tyler Smeltekop, of Mason, currently works as the assistant director for assistive technology innovation at the Michigan State University Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities. Smeltekop received his Bachelor of Arts in professional writing from Michigan State University and his Master of Arts in library and information science from Wayne State University.?Tyler Smeltekop is appointed to represent the hearing impaired?for a term commencing April 2, 2024, and expiring October 30, 2026. Tyler Smeltekop succeeds Jeffrey Eischen?whose term has expired. ?

The Barrier Free Design Board has the responsibility to receive, review, and process requests for exceptions to the barrier free design specifications, and requires appropriate equivalent alternatives when exceptions are granted. The Board receives, processes, and makes recommendations for barrier free design rules. ??

Steven L. Warren, of Harbor Springs, is the Mid-Michigan director for OHM Advisors. Warren received a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Michigan State University. Steven L. Timothy A. Platz, of Sand Lake, is the vice president and director of surveying for Fishbeck. Platz received a Bachelor of Science in plastics engineering technology and surveying engineering from Ferris State University. Timothy A. Platz is appointed to represent professional surveyors and a member of the State Board of Professional Surveyors for a term commencing April 2,2024 and expiring March 31, 2028. Timothy A. Platz succeeds?Brett Dodge whose term has expired.?

The Michigan Board of Professional Engineers was created to license and regulate the practice of professional engineering in Michigan. The Board works with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs to oversee the practice of licensed professional engineers.??

The Michigan Board of Architects was created under Article 20 of Public Act 299 of 1980, as amended, to regulate the practice of architecture, which is defined as "professional services, such as consultation, investigation, evaluation, planning, design, review of materials and completed phases of work in construction, alteration or repair in connection with a public or private structure, building, equipment, works or project, when the professional service requires the application of a principle of architecture or architectural design."???

Joe Barash, of Keego Harbor, is a certified residential appraiser and owner of Prime Appraisals LLC. He is also a licensed realtor at New Michigan Realty. Joe Barash is appointed to represent certified residential real estate appraisers?for a term commencing April 2, 2024, and expiring June 30, 2026.? ?

Nick?Krieger, of Ludington, is an attorney and the owner of Nicholas C. Krieger Attorney at Law. The Michigan Board of Real Estate Appraisers works with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs to oversee the practice of approximately 6,011 limited real estate appraisers, state licensed appraisers, certified general appraisers, and certified residential appraisers.????

Elizabeth Fluty, of Delton, is the LPN nursing director at Epic Consortium Programs, and a retired nurse educator at Kellogg Community College. Fluty received an associate degree in nursing from Southwestern Michigan College, a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Western Michigan University, and a Master of Science in nursing education from Michigan State University. Elizabeth?Fluty is appointed to represent registered nurses with a master?s degree who are engaged in nursing education in a licensed practical nurse program for a term commencing April 2, 2024 and expiring June 30, 2024.??

The Michigan Board of Nursing was created to establish qualifications for nurse licensure, to establish standards for education and approve nurse education programs, develop, and implement criteria for assurance of continued competency, and take disciplinary action against licensees when the health, safety, and welfare of the public has been adversely affected.?????
