As schools close, help ensure LGBTQ youth are safe and protected

John,

As the world rises in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us are experiencing uncertainty and unknowns. Older individuals are especially susceptible to COVID-19 but, as schools across the country close classrooms and cancel services, K-12 students are also feeling the impacts of this pandemic.

It is crucial that we do all we can to ensure that for LGBTQ students, social distancing does not result in social isolation—and that the emerging need for digital connection does not leave students vulnerable to cyberbullying.

Unfortunately, one of the least safe places for children is online. In response to the current situation, GLSEN is redoubling our efforts to support virtual GSAs, extend outreach resources, and launch other platforms for LGBTQ students.

This isn’t a crisis that can wait for a solution. Classrooms are closing across the country. Schools are struggling to provide for students. Please make a gift today to support innovative solutions for LGBTQ students today.

Virtual GSAs allow students without local GSAs or role models to connect, forge deeper bonds, and access vital counseling or mental health resources. This is especially important in rural and remote areas that are decades away from empowering LGBTQ students and teachers living in overwhelmingly conservative areas.

At a moment like this, connection to community is crucial for our collective resilience. Now more than ever, we are focused on our mission—and doing everything we can to provide support and connection to K-12 LGBTQ students. This is our highest priority.

John, please act quickly on behalf of LGBTQ students with a special gift today.

GLSEN will continue to find strength in our community—and we will continue fighting to guarantee that LGBTQ youth are safe and protected. We are thankful for your commitment during these challenging times.
