Puyr Tembé is a leader from the Tembé Indigenous peoples of Alto Rio Guama in the Brazilian Amazon, where the rainforest's sacred biodiversity is threatened by intense logging. As I've gotten to know Puyr over the last few years, she has profoundly inspired me through her courageous work defending Indigenous land rights, biocultural diversity, and our collective future on Earth.

Puyr is Secretary of Indigenous Peoples of the Brazilian state of Pará and co-founder of the National Association of Indigenous Ancestral Women Warriors. She is a mother, grandmother, daughter, and respected leader in Brazil's Indigenous movement.

This month, Amazon Watch is supporting Indigenous women leaders like Puyr, and mobilizing funds for delegations to Free Land Camp (Acampamento Terra Livre, or ATL), Brazil's largest annual gathering of Indigenous peoples.
