Gallup Poll: America Is Still a Christian Nation

Despite years of coverage that Americans have lost their faith, three out of four Americans not only believe in God but belong to a specific religion, according to a Gallup poll released on Good Friday. "By far the largest proportion, 68%, identify with a Christian religion, including 33% who are Protestant, 22% Catholic and 13% who identify with another Christian religion or simply as a 'Christian,'" Gallup reported on March 29. Another seven percent "identify with a non-Christian religion, including 2% who are Jewish, 1% Muslim and 1% Buddhist, among others." Only 22% said they did not identify with any religion.

'Cafeteria Catholic': Cardinal Says Biden Rejects Catholic Teachings

Washington, D.C.'s Catholic archbishop is labeling President Joe Biden a "cafeteria Catholic." In an Easter Sunday appearance on CBS News, Cardinal Wilton Gregory of the Archdiocese of Washington was asked, "In the case of the president, do you get a sense that his regular [Mass] attendance and adherence to the faith resonates with American Catholics?" While Gregory said he thought Biden's profession of the Catholic was "sincere," he added, "But, like a number of Catholics, he picks and chooses dimensions of the faith to highlight while ignoring or even contradicting other parts." The cardinal continued, "There is a phrase that we have used in the past, a 'cafeteria Catholic' - you choose that which is attractive and dismiss that which is challenging."

Idaho Legislature Bans Public Funding for Gender Transition Procedures

An Idaho law enacted Wednesday (H. 668) protects taxpayers from paying for gender transition procedures in a variety of ways. The legislation "adds to existing law," namely the Vulnerable Child Protection (VCAP) Act passed in 2023, which prevented physicians from harming minors with gender transition surgeries or hormones.
