Hello Friend,
Welcome to my e-newsletter, the Ready Room. As a retired Naval Aviator, the Ready Room is special to me because it’s where fellow aviators meet to brief and debrief missions. This is my weekly briefing to you on my mission in Congress. Please follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube for regular updates on how my team and I are working to serve you in Congress.
DEMANDING UNION TRANSPARENCY
Federal law allows federal employees to represent labor organizations while on the clock. Unsurprisingly, these activities often contradict the interests of American taxpayers. Last Tuesday, a federal government employee union organized an in-person protest of stricter telework policies outside a federal office building. These policies are designed to reduce agency backlog and improve customer service.
If employees can show up to the office to protest, they can show up to work. I joined Senator Joni Ernst to demand answers from Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su about the taxpayer costs when federal employees organize for unions instead of serving the public. DENOUNCING GAZA CEASEFIRE NON-VETO
Israel is one of America’s staunchest allies. Yet last week, the Biden Administration failed to demonstrate needed support. The U.S. abstained from a vote on a Gaza ceasefire resolution before the UN Security Council instead of using our veto power. This shocking action only emboldens Hamas and delays the safe return of hostages. The President must reaffirm American support of Israel and its right to defend itself. He should immediately denounce a ceasefire.
HONORING THE SERVICE OF CAPTAIN JACK DAVENPORT
The Veterans History Project (VHP) at the Library of Congress collects, preserves and shares firsthand accounts of veterans who served from World War I through recent conflicts. This important project will help future generations better understand veterans' experiences in service. FL-18 is home to many brave veterans like Captain Jack Davenport. His personal WWII narrative was included in the VHP. Capt. Davenport courageously served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1970. Click here to learn more.
