Dear neighbor,
As you may have heard, Billionaire Mets owner Steve Cohen is partnering with Hard Rock Cafe to propose Metropolitan Park, a project that would be built in the current Citi Field parking lot. Their proposal includes a casino, a convention center, a hotel, a concert hall, a dining hall, and a privately operated and maintained public park. He also promises improvements to the Flushing Bay Promenade and the Willets Point MTA station.
In order to win one of the three available casino licenses that would make Metropolitan Park possible, Mr. Cohen needs me to introduce legislation that would change the designation of the parking lot around Citi Field. This is a consequential decision, and I have been making serious efforts to make sure my neighbors can make their voices heard. I have held three town halls, taken many meetings with constituents and community leaders, and attended community board and civic association meetings to hear directly from all of you.
