The first Earth Day in 1970 brought massive crowds who gathered across the country and helped create momentum for critical environmental action including the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the passage of the Clean Water Act and the Endangered Species Act. Today, our efforts to protect the environment must be rooted in an understanding of environmental, racial, and social justice — all on their own and in how they intersect. To address climate change and to preserve the place we all call home.
