Happy Financial Capability Month [ [link removed] ]! The sun is coming out, the flowers are blooming, and financial education & outreach is booming! In this newsletter issue, you will find an upcoming DFI event, ways for teachers to get involved with finance, and upcoming financial education webinars.

*Next Generation of Financial Leaders Workshop*

The Department of Financial Institutions (DFI), is working with bank and credit union association partners to offer a four-day program for young adults who seek hands-on knowledge and exposure to the various careers available at banks and credit unions as well as careers regulating these financial institutions.

*When is it?* June 17-21, 2024 (with June 19 – the Juneteenth holiday - off). Applications will be accepted until April 30. Participants will be notified of their selection for the workshop in early May. The first two days, Monday and Tuesday will be in person at Bellevue College. Wednesday there will be no workshop in observation of the Juneteenth holiday. Thursday will be at a financial institution, and Friday will close the program virtually.   

*Where is it?* Bellevue College, 3000 Landerholm Circle S.E., Bellevue, WA. 

*Who is it for?* Young adults – age 18 or older - including recent high school graduates, current college or technical school students and recent college graduates.

*Applications requirements:*


* Be at least 18 years old.
* Provide their own transportation to the workshop. 
* Commit to attending and participating in all days of the workshop.
* Applicants do not need to be enrolled in college to participate in this workshop.
* Provide their own housing if they do not reside within the standard commute range (30-90 min.).

*National Personal Finance Challenge 2024*

NPFC

The National Personal Finance Challenge (NPFC), a fun and motivating team competition that provides high school students with the opportunity to get financially savvy and demonstrate their money management skills.

The NPFC is free, easy to sign up for, and offers materials to make coaching easy. 

*_Important Dates: _*

Team/s registrations: Jan. 1 - April 24, 2024. 

Exam period: Opened March 27 at 6 p.m. Eastern time, through April 26, 2024 

Advancing Teams Notified: May 1, 2024 

In-Person National Finals: May 19-20, 2024 

Winning teams move on to compete with teams across the nation and win cash prizes at our exciting in-person National Finals in Cleveland, Ohio. In the National Finals your students will demonstrate their personal finance knowledge, using a case study format to consider alternatives and trade-offs for a family scenario. The top 16 teams in the National Finals' case study round will then compete in a Quiz Bowl where the Top 4 teams advance to compete in the National Finals Quiz Bowl for the title of national champion! 

While in Cleveland ALL EXPENSES are covered (including food, hotel, and events). Transportation to/from state of origin excluded.

*FEPPP Keys to Financial Success*

FEPPP will be co-sponsoring the Keys to Financial Success training with the Philidelphia Federal Reserve Bank.

This professional development opportunity will be offered to Washington state educators looking for a comprehensive personal finance course with standards based, classroom tested active participation materials that you can introduce in your classrooms. The Keys to Financial Success is a turn-key program that can be implemented this fall.

*Office of State Treasurer Financial Wellness 101 Workshops*

View the schedule below and sign up for our upcoming Financial Wellness 101 workshops — brought to you at _no cost_ by the Office of the State Treasurer and WorkSource Washington [ [link removed] ]. Attendees can participate in-person at WorkSource of Thurston County or attend online — so no matter where you are in Washington you are welcome to participate! Each month, the State Treasurer’s Financial Education Coordinator hosts three different free workshops focused on budgeting, credit & debt, and consumer cautions.


* The budgeting workshop teaches how to set financial goals and create a budgeting plan.
* The credit & debt workshop details how to build and improve your credit history and make a debt payoff plan.
* The consumer cautions workshop teaches techniques to start budgeting conversations with your family and avoid identity theft.
