Hey John,
I’m writing to you with disappointment and frustration at the top of my mind. April is here, which means we’ve arrived at another Sexual Assault Awareness Month under President Biden – but with Trump’s Title IX rules in place. Think about that – students experiencing sexual assault are navigating an anti-survivor system endorsed by Donald J. Trump, even though he’s been out of office for more than three years?!
Maybe it’s time for a new approach. We have pressured the Biden Administration directly to keep his promise to set new Title IX rules like he promised. He has blown every deadline. So maybe he’ll listen to his allies in Congress.
Join me in sending a letter to your members of Congress here, asking them to pressure Biden to act. We have seen proposed new rules that are vast improvements for survivors of sexual assault, LGBTQI+ students, and pregnant and parenting students. The proposed new rules would:
- restore and strengthen the civil rights of student survivors, LGBTQI+ students, and pregnant and parenting students
- ensure robust supportive measures and fair grievance processes for all students
- and guarantee that students’ educations are not further interrupted by the impacts of gender-based violence and discrimination
All Biden needs to do now is finalize and release them! After missing their March 2024 deadline, we have to keep the pressure on to ensure that they finalize new Title IX rules before the end of yet another school year.
It’s been a long time since Joe Biden was in school, but students don’t get this many extensions, Mr. President. Your Title IX report card remains incomplete, and time is running out for you to finish what you started. We need our allies in Congress to remind Biden that students can’t wait any longer for new Title IX rules.
Write a letter to your members of Congress in just three clicks here. Urge them to stand up for students' civil rights by advocating for a strong, final Title IX rule, so that students are not denied equal access to education for the entirety of yet another school year. We need a #NewTitleIXNow.
In solidarity,
