Message from Congressman Scott Fitzgerald
Good afternoon everyone.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter Sunday celebrating with friends and family.
Congress is currently out of session, so this week’s newsletter will focus on some important district updates and approaching deadlines to keep on your radar.
One item I wanted to touch on, however, is my Q&A at the Financial Services Committee hearing on homebuyer challenges I shared in last week’s newsletter. This topic resonated with many of you so I wanted to take a moment again to reiterate what I believe the solution is to the tight housing market we’re facing.
The White House is taking the wrong approach to the housing crising by increasing demand for starter homes, which are already in short supply, thereby driving up prices. To truly increase affordable housing opportunities, federal policymakers should focus on increasing the supply of housing. This can be accomplished directly by lowering the costs of materials needed for construction and expanding the workforce of skilled trades. It can also be accomplished by encouraging the production of non-site-built housing options, such as manufactured housing. I’m grateful to be a sitting member on the Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance—this is an important issue for many Southeast Wisconsitines, and I will always be an advocate for solutions that take the burden off of you.
We’ll get back to regular legislative programming next week once Congress is back in session!
Have a great week, and as always, call my office at (202) 225-5101 if you have any questions or concerns.
