Next relief package must do more Hello John,

This is an incredibly uncertain time for our nation, and for older Americans especially. Yet, decisions now being made at the highest levels of our government could have a profound impact on the health and economic security of every American, young and old. So it's critical that President Trump upholds our government's promise to millions of workers and retirees.

If you haven't yet signed our Urgent Petition to President Trump, please take a moment to do it right now, [link removed] so he understands that voters are paying attention and we expect him to support legislation that strengthens our nation's safety net programs. And if you have already signed it: Thank you. You've taken the first step in ensuring your views are heard during this challenging time. Now please consider making a donation in whatever amount you can afford [link removed] to help boost our crucial work to protect and strengthen Social Security and Medicare’s earned benefits.

Sincerely, Julie Lynch
Member Services Manager

Begin forwarded message:   [link removed]     SIGN Our Urgent Petition to
President Trump Today! [link removed]   DearJohn,  After consulting with our nation's top health care experts, President Trump has decided to extend social distancing guidelines for all Americans until April 30. And on March 27, the President signed into law a bipartisan coronavirus relief bill [link removed] that will give millions of older Americans cash payments ($1,200 for individuals and $2,400 for couples) and expanded Medicare benefits, along with emergency supports for skilled nursing facilities and caregivers.

While this is welcome news for many seniors, the National Committee is deeply concerned about provisions in the economic relief law that allow employers to defer, or receive a rebate for, paying payroll taxes into Social Security, which deprives this program of much-needed revenue and ultimately undermines the earned-right nature of Social Security. These measures could also open the door to future efforts to weaken Social Security. And so, as millions of older Americans are counting on their earned benefits just to survive the coronavirus pandemic, we need to ensure that the next relief bill offered up in Congress does not leave behind retirees and our nation's most vulnerable citizens.
Please help the National Committee send a compelling message to President Trump urging him to reject any future economic relief package that undermines Social Security — and asking him to instead support legislation that strengthens earned benefits and funding for programs that benefit the most vulnerable among us — by signing our Urgent Petition today! [link removed]
Our elected officials cannot ignore the fact that older Americans and people with disabilities are at a far greater risk of contracting the coronavirus and requiring hospitalization. That's why we need to insist that the Trump Administration acknowledges the serious economic and health challenges facing millions of older Americans — and acts to improve Social Security and Medicare.

So please sign our Urgent Petition to President Trump right now [link removed] and remind him that, now more than ever, older adults are counting on social safety net programs for their well-being and economic security — and they must be protected and strengthened immediately! Please speak out!
          Sincerely, Max Richtman
