Earth Day is an opportunity for all of us to take stock of where we are in the fight to solve the climate crisis.
And the clock is ticking. Scientists gave us until the year 2030 to start implementing bold and meaningful changes in order to avoid major climate catastrophe.
Despite the incredible urgency of this crisis, with devastating flooding and other extreme weather ramping up, California actually regressed on climate action last year. EnviroVoters gave the state a B grade in our California Environmental Scorecard — down from the A- it earned in 2022 — because it undercut progress with actions and policies that moved us in the opposite direction on environmental protection and climate leadership.
California’s actions must match the scale of the crisis to solve it.
With every Assembly seat and half of the Senate up for grabs, Californians have a chance to reshape the state legislature this November to secure a climate majority that will consistently introduce and support bold solutions.
Of course, the opportunities to vote for climate candidates aren’t just at the state level, friend. You can vote for local climate leaders and measures in your community who may even have more of an impact on your daily life. And re-electing President Biden and voting for a climate champion for Congress could mean an environmental majority in Washington that will pass more transformational climate legislation like the Inflation Reduction Act.
If we can turn out to vote in unprecedented numbers, we can finally replace the climate deniers and delayers who are holding back our progress with true environmental champions in California and across the country. Will you join us in pledging to vote for them?
