*WMC Business Meeting and Rulemaking*

The WMC will hold two Rules Hearings on Friday, April 26, 2024:


* Regarding general provisions for opioid prescribing and tapering rules for allopathic physicians and physician assistants. Begins at 9:15 am. The CR-102, Proposed Rulemaking, filed as?WSR #24-07-106 [ [link removed] ], includes the proposed language.
* Regarding postgraduate training for physicians, WAC 246-919-330. Begins at 9:45 am. The CR-102, Proposed Rulemaking, filed as?WSR #24-07-107 [ [link removed] ], includes the proposed language.

Emergency Rules Adopted: Postgraduate Medical Training

The WMC has amended?WAC 246-919-330(4) [ [link removed] ]?Postgraduate medical training via emergency rulemaking. The amendment eliminates the outdated requirement for consecutive years of training in no more than two programs. The CR-103E was filed with the Code Reviser on November 9, 2023, under WSR 23-23-071 and again on July 13, 2023, under WSR 23-15-056. This emergency rule is being continued under WSR #24-07-019 which was filed on March 8, 2024. The WMC will continue this emergency rule until the post graduate medical training standards are adopted through the permanent rule making process. Learn More [ [link removed] ]

Your WA Medical Commission (WMC) currently regulates about 34,000 licenses, more than 3,000 of which are Physician Assistants.?

The WMC is composed of 21 governor-appointed members, including:


* 13 physicians, one from each congressional district and three at-large positions
* Six public members
* Two physician assistants.

The WMC also employs staff based in Tumwater and Spokane, WA. The professional staff includes attorneys and physicians.?
