The Lincoln Project

Friend,

Our goals at The Lincoln Project have always been clear. Take the fight to Trump. Force him to make mistakes. Show voters the contrast between MAGA insanity and President Biden’s leadership. Grow the pro-democracy coalition. Our work has never been more important, and we are doing more and more of it every day. As I keep saying: MAGA does the crazy, and we have to do the work.

Election Day is barely seven months away. As we wrap up the first quarter of 2024, here is where we see the battlefield and where we are going next.

Defining the contrast:

This keeps getting easier and easier. On issue after issue, MAGA extremism is laying out the case for us. From the immigration debacle to another potential shutdown where Democrats of course bailed the country out again. The Alabama IVF ruling and Republicans once again making noise about gutting Medicare/Social Security. Meanwhile, the effects of the monumental legislation President Biden passed are starting to sink in. Job and wage growth. Markets are booming. Inflation is now below real wage growth. All as a result of his steady leadership. Our ad “Four more Years” tells the story.

Taking the fight to Trump:

Yes, you know how mad he got when we dropped a video of his dad calling him a moron. But when we deployed “God Made A Dictator” on billboard trucks and digitally at events in New Hampshire, not only did that move votes away from Trump, his unhinged ranting kept him off message. Immediately after we rattled him, he started calling Nikki Haley supporters RINOs and communists and made it clear they were not welcome in his party. Winning elections is about addition, and we are forcing Trump to subtract over and over and over again.

Growing the pro-democracy coalition:

My friend Ron Brownstein said it best – Nikki Haley left a “trail of breadcrumbs” for President Biden to pick up with voters on the campaign trail. You are seeing it in primary after primary. Trump is weaker than ever. In states like Florida with closed primaries, nearly 20% of hardcore Republicans said “no más” to Trump and voted for candidates who aren’t even running anymore. In battlegrounds like Arizona and Michigan, the numbers are similar and that is very bad news for Trump. What that means is more swing voters are open to pro-democracy messaging than ever before. You are seeing this with how the Biden campaign has recently begun to openly target Haley voters. We’ve been doing this for months.

Also, one of my favorite ads this year was “It's You.” Why? It’s more than just a powerful message. It has grown our movement substantially. Over 10,000 committed pro-democracy supporters joined The Lincoln Project after we released it nationwide. And we are growing every day.

We’ve been putting in the crucial work we need to do to win this election. As Rick hinted, next week is going to be an even bigger week for us. We are taking the fight to MAGA in battleground states like no one else is doing or could do.

We are coming up on just 7 months to go until Election Day. We have made progress the last three months, but we can’t let up now. If you are as excited as I am about the progress we have made and where we’re going – please pitch in before midnight on the 31st. What we do now will set the tone for the spring and summer, and set us up to beat Trump once and for all.

I have never been prouder to be part of this pro-democracy coalition. Thank you for everything you are doing every day to make a difference.

- Trippi
