The hypocrisy Congressional Republicans have demonstrated lately seems to have no limits. This new op-ed from People For president Svante Myrick highlights the most recent example of Republicans publicly expressing support for in vitro fertilization (IVF) and then blocking a bill in Congress that would have protected it.

Clearly, nothing will stop Republicans from saying and doing whatever it takes in a desperate attempt to appease their extremist base while trying to appeal to the vast majority of the nation’s voters that oppose these draconian assaults on our freedom. We’re not buying it – and neither will voters.

Exposing and fighting right-wing extremists is nothing new for People For – in fact, we’ve been doing it for more than 40 years. But without your continued support, we may fall short of our ambitious fundraising goal and be forced to scale back our plans in this crucial election year.

In late February, Sen. Mitch McConnell announced that he will step down from his position as Republican leader later this year. McConnell has, unfortunately, been one of the most consequential political figures of the 21st century. He set out to empower a ruthless political takeover of our federal courts, and he didn’t let democratic norms, constitutional principles, or ethical principles get in his way.

McConnell has shown that organizing around the courts can change them dramatically. So as we prepare to turn the page on McConnell’s time as Senate party leader, let’s review five ways that he changed our courts.

I wonder how many Americans realize they are on Trump’s enemies list? And I wonder if our collective response would be different if more people knew they could be targeted and their lives upended.

To find out who’s targeted, all you have to do is refer to a 900-page “Mandate for Leadership” produced for Project 2025, the effort led by the right-wing Heritage Foundation and supported by almost 100 Trump-supporting groups. It’s a blueprint for the authoritarian Republican administration they hope is coming next.

The project, “backed by a multimillion-dollar war chest,” has been described as a plan that “would enable Trump to wield virtually unchecked power over the executive branch of the federal government and allow him to use it as a weapon against personal enemies, political opponents and the media.”

And while it’s starting to get more attention, I’m surprised at how little everyday Americans know about it — even in well-informed circles.

Black History Month may be over, but our work to make sure we teach Black history continues. On February 25, People For’s “Grandparents For Truth” hosted a Black History Month teach-in in Eatonville, Florida. It was so great to talk about Black History in Eatonville, which has its own unique place in Black History. Read on to learn more about the event and how you can engage in our efforts to stop censorship.

Mark Robinson is an unabashed Christian nationalist and virulent anti-LGBTQ bigot who has a long history of making offensive and antisemitic comments. And after North Carolina’s GOP primary earlier this month, he is now officially the party’s nominee for governor.

In 2020, Robinson was catapulted from relative obscurity to the lieutenant governor’s office because, he says, he has been chosen by God to “literally make war on the devil” and see that this nation is “led by the people of God.” Robinson describes himself as “more preacher than politician” who has to constantly remind himself that we live in a constitutional republic, “not a theocracy.” And he is also an unabashed authoritarian who has demanded that Christians get “warlike” in order to defeat “the enemies of freedom” who are supposedly trying to destroy the nation.

As we face a growing wave of authoritarianism and anti-democratic forces, it has never been more critical to secure the future of our democracy and the progressive values that are under attack by right-wing extremists. One way to join this cause is through estate planning to protect the people and things you love, safeguard your assets, and secure a brighter future for our country.

Despite the value of planning, the process is often inaccessible, overwhelming, and expensive — especially to historically disenfranchised communities. That's why we are excited to announce our new partnership with FreeWill so that our supporters can create their wills, and plan their estates at NO cost to you.
