At midnight tonight, we face our biggest fundraising deadline so far this year. Then all our numbers go public, for the media and for our opponents to scrutinize for any sign of weakness. I don’t want to give them any to seize on.
When I won my first election to Congress in 2018, we shocked a lot of people. Some pundits didn’t think anyone could flip a seat in Kansas — especially not an LGBTQ+, Native American, former MMA fighter who was raised by a single mom. It’s fair to say what we did, no one had ever done before.
I’m proud we won that race, and I’m proud of everything we’ve accomplished together since: reducing the cost of insulin for Kansans on Medicare, helping to bring good-paying, clean-energy jobs here to KS-03, expanding rural broadband access, passing bipartisan legislation protecting same-sex marriage rights, enacting the most significant gun safety law in a generation, delivering funding to upgrade critical infrastructure all across Kansas, and so much more.
None of it would be possible without the incredible grassroots team that’s had my back every step of the way. I am grateful for you and for every single person who’s helped me get where I am, and it’s something I will NEVER take for granted.
But the work is also very much unfinished. There’s a lot still on our to-do list: protecting abortion rights, securing our democracy, and reducing costs for hardworking families who are struggling today. Investing in communities who feel forgotten and overlooked.
The stakes of this next election are really, really high. Here in KS-03, our efforts could determine which party wins control of Congress, and you can bet it’s going to come right down to the wire. So we need the resources to fight for every vote.
