Trump Bibles make a mockery of Christianity — and that's exactly why MAGA will eat them up
One would think that a credibly accused serial sexual predator, lifelong thief, unrepentant bully, and bigot like Donald Trump selling $60 Bibles during Easter might upset his evangelical base, who are otherwise extremely touchy about these sorts of things. But they love it, writes Amanda Marcotte, BECAUSE of his obvious contempt for their faith and the moral code it proscribes. "They can have the identity 'Christian,' and all the power that goes with it, minus the parts they don't like. No boring church services or Bible study. No tedious talk about 'compassion' and 'grace,' which only gets in the way of the gay-bashing and racism. And definitely no need to worry about that Jesus guy, with all his notions about 'loving thy neighbor'... What Trump offers when it comes to Christianity is what he offers his followers in every other aspect: permission to stop pretending to be good people." We can see this liberation from the burden of having to pretend to be good in the increasingly nihilistic cruelty coming from Republican politicians, who, for example, have been rejecting federal money en masse to expand school lunch programs and feed hungry kids. "It's much easier to beat people down with a book if it's closed," concludes Marcotte.

GOP millionaire swoops in on crucial battleground Senate race
Tammy Baldwin for Senate: California bank owner, Eric Hovde, is running for Senator Tammy Baldwin’s must-win seat. This man is a megamillionaire capable of pouring at least $20 million dollars from his own fortune into the race — and you know that McConnell’s dark-money network is set to pour millions more in to replace Senator Baldwin with a right-wing extremist ready to do Trump’s bidding. Will you chip in to help re-elect Senator Baldwin and protect our Senate majority?
DoorDash and UberEats use customers as pawns to punish workers fighting for better conditions
Seattle recently passed the "Pay Up!" bill, forcing delivery companies to actually pay their gig workers the minimum wage and receive the standard mileage reimbursement. These companies were so enraged at having to pay their workers minimum wage that they concocted a plan to create new service fees to pass the costs onto their customers and tank consumer demand for their own services in order to punish workers and create a political backlash to get these laws repealed. The Seattle City Council passed these laws in the first place because gig workers "face unique barriers to economic security and disproportionately must accept low-wage, unsafe, and insecure working conditions" and because gig workers are "disproportionately deprived of core employee protections." The entire business model of these gig economy apps is predicated on exploiting and underpaying their workers, and this kind of shockingly vindictive response is sadly par for the course in a country where there are little to no consequences for abusing and exploiting workers.

Feds recently hit cargo giant in Baltimore disaster for silencing whistleblowers
Eight months before the Dali, a Maersk Line Limited-chartered cargo ship, crashed into the Baltimore's Key Bridge, the Labor Department sanctioned the shipping conglomerate for retaliating against an employee who reported unsafe working conditions aboard a Maersk-operated boat. It turns out the Danish shipping conglomerate had a rule that requires employees to first report their concerns to the company BEFORE reporting it to the Coast Guard or other authorities, which the Labor Department slammed as "reprehensible and an egregious violation of the rights of employees." Maersk was found to have wrongfully fired an employee who reported "unrepaired leaks, unpermitted alcohol consumption onboard, inoperable lifeboats, faulty emergency fire suppression equipment, and other issues," according to the writing team at The Lever. This policy, which was approved by Maersk company executives, raises serious questions as the investigation into exactly what happened onboard the Dali and whether or not corporate efforts to dodge maintenance costs contributed to the disaster that killed at least six people and caused billions of dollars in damage.
