Hi all,
With so much going on in our country right now, I wanted to take a moment to update you on what I'm working on in Congress to make sure Colorado families are taken care of.
Congress has successfully passed three COVID-19 emergency relief and stabilization bills to support families and small businesses during this unprecedented time.
The first bill was signed into law on March 6th and provided emergency relief to immediately stop the spread of the virus, including emergency funding to help prepare for the pandemic.
We passed the second bill on March 18th to assist Americans struggling as a result of social distancing. This bill adjusted food assistance programs, expanded unemployment insurance, ensured workers had access to paid sick leave and paid family leave, and created a payroll tax credit to support small businesses providing these paid leave programs to their employees.
Finally, last week we came together to pass the third piece of legislation to deal with both the immediate healthcare needs to respond to this crisis and to begin stimulating the economy through direct assistance to individuals and businesses. This legislation includes direct payments to taxpayers of up to $1,200 per adult and $500 per child for each household.
It is my sincere hope that these measures will provide some immediate relief and lay the groundwork to rebuild in the months ahead.
For now, please continue to check the
CDC or
CDPHE website for up-to-date information about the pandemic.
Stay safe and be well,
Ed
