Dear Friend,
Tomorrow, March 31st, we celebrate the birth, life and legacy of the civil rights and labor movement activist Cesar Chavez. Chavez’s words and deeds remind us to love and respect our country's farm workers. They are not just the ones in the fields working to put food on our tables but also fighting for labor protections, immigration justice, and increasingly for climate action.

Our agriculture systems are under threat from the climate crisis, and farm workers are firsthand witnesses to the reality of climate catastrophe. Farm workers face extended periods of extreme heat, flooded fields, and crop failures due to a rapidly changing climate.
The intersectionality of the climate crisis with so many other issues is part of what inspired me to run for Texas Railroad Commissioner. As Greens we must advocate for new policies while also changing minds and hearts.
As Greens who support big changes to American policy, we often find ourselves debating policies with opponents and supporters alike. But let’s remember the words of Cesar Chavez.
“We can’t retreat. We will win…we are winning, because ours is a revolution of the mind and the heart.”
- Cesar Chavez on his campaign for farm worker rights and protections
Together, we are calling for a timely and orderly end to fossil fuel extraction, a shift to 100% renewable energy, and a clean decarbonized economy that benefits everyone. Now, more than ever, we need strong environmental policies and strong regulations to prevent future environmental disasters, like the one in the Permian Basin.
The Green Party and I stand in solidarity with ALL farm workers in their quest for better pay and better working conditions. We stand with all Americans in seeking Environmental Justice and Ecological Wisdom for everyone in the Americas. The Green Party will always choose life, people, and planet over profits, corporations, and billionaires.

P.S. Eddie Espinoza is an Army veteran, retired teacher, and the Green Party candidate for Texas Railroad Commissioner – despite the name, the Railroad Commission regulates the oil and gas industry in Texas, an impactful position for a candidate with Green Values!
