Every day, more than 2 million domestic workers do the work of caring for our families and our homes.

So John, we wanted to share a little more about who these incredible women are and the work we do to support them.

WHO ARE DOMESTIC WORKERS?

Domestic workers are nannies, housecleaners, and home care workers who do the essential work of caring for our loved ones and our homes – and are a crucial part of the care workforce. Working in someone else’s home is a key reason this work is unique.

WHO ARE WE?

Nearly 17 years ago, driven by the lack of national attention by politicians, the press, and the public, a group of local organizations came together to start our organization – the National Domestic Workers Alliance – with the idea that local organizing could be strengthened in building collective power, nationally.

Today, the National Domestic Workers Alliance is the hub for 70+ grassroots affiliate organizations and chapters across the country and a growing online community of 200,000+ workers.

WHAT DO WE DO?

Driven by the lived experiences and aspirations of domestic workers, we have five main strategies to transform the domestic work sector.

1. We organize and develop leaders. NDWA is the home for domestic workers - a space to share resources, build skills via training, access benefits, get support, and organize to win rights. --> [[link removed]]

2. We develop policy solutions. We develop new policies, and we mobilize workers, supporters and partners to advocate for improved working conditions and economic security for domestic workers. --> [[link removed]]

3. We change the story. We leverage the power of popular culture to shift key narratives and elevate character-driven stories of domestic workers by partnering with artists and storytellers. --> [[link removed]]

4. We innovate new solutions. We use technology to solve for equity and dignity and find new ways to make work better for domestic workers. --> [[link removed]]

5. We empower voters. We educate and engage underrepresented women of color voters because when women of color vote, we build a better world. --> [[link removed]]
