WHAT’S OPEN? Prison Doors

WHO’S LOCKED UP? We are.

Governor Gavin Newsom’s timing couldn’t have been worse – rather than calming Californian’s fears in the face of COVID-19 shelter-in-place orders and the media’s 24 hours of fear-mongering, he’s granted clemency to 26 imprisoned felons, including a man who stabbed a defenseless elderly woman to death in her home.

While we are virtually locked up in our own homes, Newsom believes violent convicted felons deserve a chance to settle in your community.

14 of the 26 incarcerated felons whose sentences he wants to commute had been convicted of murder or related violent crimes.

Two of the cases involved the deaths of children and a pregnant woman in a third.

As if we Californians don’t have enough to worry about.

And, in the midst of this announcement, gun stores across the state were being shut down and people couldn’t even begin the process of buying a gun to insure the safety of their families. READ OUR LETTER to the Governor HERE. These commutations are not just awful public policy, but they also send a cold and callous message to the innocent people he represents.

It elevates the criminal and devalues the innocent. This is not right.

Contrary to what Governor Newsom proclaims, GOC believes the safety of law abiding Californians is imperative, as is their ability to protect their families.
