Easter is a time to celebrate the miracle of life overcoming death.

John,

Easter is a time to celebrate the miracle of life overcoming death.

While our culture has a tendency to materialize and consumerize Christian holidays, Easter is truly a time of rejoicing in Christ’s ultimate victory over death.

Something we don’t always think about is the time between Jesus’ death on Good Friday and His resurrection on Easter Sunday. Holy Saturday is a profound day of silence and waiting.

I think about how Jesus’ disciples must have felt, deep in grief as they mourned the horrific death of their beloved Lord. They were promised a resurrection, but for many, it must have seemed so bleak. They had just seen Jesus publicly humiliated, tortured on a cross, and placed in a tomb.

But Jesus had changed everything for the Apostles when they met Him, and while they surely felt lost and fearful on the day after His death, He had already promised them He would return on the third day.

What’s incredible is that they would not have experienced the profound joy of His rising again if they had not first experienced the loss and bewilderment of his death. The same is true for us.

Many pregnant mothers, especially in unexpected pregnancies, feel fearful and discouraged during their nine months of waiting. But the profound message of Easter is that — in addition to the fact that we do not need to be afraid of death, due to Christ’s victory — we likewise do not need to be afraid of life.

Jesus’ death won us eternal life. He asks us to trust Him, to hope in Him, and to rejoice with Him in His resurrection.

This Easter, let’s rest in the conviction that we are made for life and that even if we have questions, doubts, and sufferings in our periods of waiting, the joy that is to come will be worth it all.

Happy Easter,

Lila Rose
