Herbert,
This has been a difficult week.
I wanted to give you some updates in the wake of the tragic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge on Tuesday, March 26th.
Over the last few days, our teams have been working around the clock. I want to thank the Biden Administration, Governor Wes Moore, Mayor Brandon Scott, and all of Team Maryland for mobilizing so quickly and standing by our side amid these unprecedented challenges.
Our immediate focus remains on ensuring we can meet the ongoing needs of the families impacted in the wake of this unspeakable tragedy. I have spoken with them—our neighbors—and moving forward, we will continue to do all we can to provide solace, support, and grace during this unimaginable time.
As we move into the next phase of this crisis, we remain ready to do all we can to support efforts to clear the channel and get the Port back open for business. This work is complex, and it will take considerable time — and unprecedented partnership.
I again thank all our dedicated first responders for their swift and coordinated response, as well as every public servant, community hero, and committed partner who has and will continue to help us meet this moment. Together, we will show the world that we will persevere.
In service,
Johnny Olszewski
