Dear John,

Like millions of Americans, you’re probably at home doing your part to keep our
society safe. You’re also probably looking for ways to take meaningful action
while social distancing during this time of economic, health, and political
crisis.

The Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) Action Fund is committed to finding
new ways to organize and advocate during this crisis. One thing we know for sure
is that the coronavirus pandemic has illustrated that a government fraught with
denial and unpreparedness makes a bad situation worse.

See below five quick ways you can make your voice heard on five paramount
issues:

* Demand that the House pass the Fracking Ban Act.
[[link removed]] Studies show that fracking is wreaking havoc on our health by polluting the
air we breathe and the water we drink. During this pandemic, the connection
between a healthy planet and a healthy community could not be more clear. We
banned fracking in the state of Maryland; now we need to ban it nationwide. Sign this petition and demand that fracking is banned nationwide.

* Demand that Liberty Mutual stop insuring tar sands.
[[link removed]] Liberty Mutual is a huge backer of one of the dirtiest fuels on the planet.
Stand in solidarity with Indigenous people fighting to protect their sacred
lands, the air they breathe and the water they drink. Sign this petition and demand that Liberty Mutual stops insuring tar sands.

* Demand that states do more to curb climate change.
[[link removed]] The federal government has woefully failed to pass effective climate
legislation. State governments must step up and pursue aggressive climate
action to secure a future for the next generation. Send a quick email to your state officials demanding they take action to
curb climate change.

* Hold Exxon Accountable.
[[link removed]] For the last five decades Big Oil and Big Gas companies knowingly deceived
the public about their extensive contribution to the climate crisis. They
must be held to account. Sign this petition to show your support for holding big polluters like Exxon
accountable and making them pay to fix the climate crisis.

* Fill out the Census.
[[link removed]] It’s vitally important that everyone living in the United States is counted
in the census. The results of the 2020 Census will help determine how
hundreds of billions of federal dollars flow into communities - think
hospitals, health programs, school lunches, and support for firefighters. Fill out the Census online.

With three out of four Americans under the directive to stay at home, it’s time
to ramp up our online activism. And though our minds and hearts are rightly
occupied with the coronavirus, we know the climate crisis remains. Like never
before the politics of denial, inaction and mismanagement need to end. Commit to these five actions today and make your voice heard.

We’ll be in touch soon with more ways we’re going to keep up the pressure on
climate in this new digital world.

Thanks for all you do,

Mike Tidwell
