Hi John,
First, I hope this note finds you healthy at home. Please know that TFN’s first priority is to protect the health and safety of our staff members, supporters and volunteers like you. For this reason, we will not be holding any in-person volunteer events in April.
But during this time of physical distancing, it is more important than ever to find new ways to stay connected socially. Below are a few ways to stay engaged with TFN’s work from the comfort of your home:
Virtual Volunteer Lunch – Thursday, April 9, 12pm-1pm
As we all adjust to this new world of social distancing, the friendly conversation and witty banter with fellow progressives at our TFN mailouts is one of the things I’ll miss most this month.
For this reason, I invite you to join me (and a few special TFN guests) next Thursday, April 9 for a Virtual Volunteer Lunch. Let’s take some time to catch up with each other and continue to build community while we are physically apart. It’ll be just like any other mailout, just without the envelopes!
Unfortunately, this gathering will be bring-your-own-lunch.
Please RSVP to receive the Zoom link [

Texas Rising Student Spotlight
Meet Emerald, one of the amazing student leaders at Texas Rising’s University of Texas - Rio Grande Valley chapter. As a freshman, she knew she was interested in politics and wanted to be civically engaged, but didn’t quite know how to get involved. After a professor recommended Texas Rising, Emerald attended an in-district lobby day, where she watched in awe as her fellow students stood up for their progressive interests with their elected officials. Until that point, she didn’t realize she had any power. Since then, she’s been all in.
Two years later, Emerald is now a Deputy Field Organizer. She feels even more deeply involved in the program because she gets to spend her time engaging with activists, empowering her peers and registering new voters. After she graduates, Emerald wants to go to law school to become a civil rights attorney and her ideal career includes a future run for office. Emerald feels her time in Texas Rising has provided her with the training and leadership opportunities to become an effective leader and advocate for her community.
