Learn more about what my office has been up to this week Dear john, During this week's District Work Period, I was honored to spend time with fellow elected officials, policy experts, and stakeholders in our community to reflect on some of our most pressing needs. These opportunities are invaluable to me, as conversations and connections that I make here in Georgia play such an important role in informing my work in Washington. I want to thank every person and organization I was able to interact with this week. Here are a few items that you may have missed: On Monday, I attended the renaming ceremony for the Department of Veterans Affairs Atlanta Regional Office, which has been renamed in honor of the late Senator Johnny Isakson. Along with Senator Ossoff, Rep. Sanford Bishop, and Rep. Austin Scott, we were pleased to welcome VA Secretary Denis McDonough to metro Atlanta. It was my honor to meet members of Senator Isakson's family and take a moment to reflect on his life in service to Georgia and to our nation, particularly to the men and women who served in our armed forces. Next month, the Department of Justice will announce the next round of FY24 funding for the Community Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative grant program, which was made possible by the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. It was my pleasure to convene my second annual CVIPI grant briefing for members of our community who are interested in learning more and applying for this funding. Stay tuned to updates from my office about when this year's Notice of Funding Opportunity will be released. Pictured above: Rep. McBath speaks at the podium during her CVIPI briefing. On Thursday, I participated in a maternal health roundtable in honor of Women's History Month! Here in Georgia, we know how urgently we must act to improve maternal health outcomes. I am grateful to Four Corners Primary Care for hosting this week's conversation, and I was thrilled to be joined by Department of Health and Human Services Region IV Director Antrell Tyson. Because of the hard work and visionary leadership of the providers and policy experts I spoke with, I have every confidence that we will move the needle on health outcomes for mothers and their babies in Georgia.
