John, I know we’re in the middle of fundraising for our FEC deadline ( if you can chip in here [[link removed]] , I’d personally appreciate it).

But I wanted to share why I’m optimistic.

Generations are measured in spans of about 20 years, and we’re reaching the penultimate point of this one.

I believe it started with then-Senator Barack Obama’s speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. It resonated deeply with the American people, who elected him as our first Black president in U.S. history four years later.

Then, like Jim Crow after Reconstruction, came the backlash.

The attacks on voting rights, with Shelby County v. Holder at the Supreme Court in 2013 undermining the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

The backlash of Donald Trump and his MAGA movement. Their victory in 2016.

Covid-19. The largest movement for racial justice in modern history. The election of Joe Biden and the defeat of Donald Trump in 2020, followed by Trump’s insurrection at the Capitol.

Now, following years of Trump and his allies’ retaliation and lies, and our efforts to move our country forward, comes the election of 2024.

I believe that we will overcome the forces of prejudice and divisiveness to build the more just, loving nation that you and I know we can, we must become.

To protect voting rights. To build an economy, as Joe Biden says, “from the bottom up and the middle out.” To save our planet. To save our democracy.

The American people know the stakes. You know the stakes. And I am convinced that, once again, we will rise to the occasion. To give meaning to this long, historic arc that will determine what kind of country we will be for the next generation.

I’m prepared to do everything in my power to share this optimistic message across the country, rally support for my Democratic colleagues, and elect Democrats up and down the ballot. If you’re with me, John, I am humbly asking for your support ahead of this Sunday’s FEC deadline. Please chip in if you can. [[link removed]]
