Happy Friday, I just got out of a meeting with my campaign team and wanted to share a few takeaways with you.

Where we stand: This Sunday is our first end-of-quarter deadline of the general election. Right now we’re falling short of our $15,000 goal. If you can afford to donate and help us win this competitive race, I would greatly appreciate it. Here is the link [[link removed]] .

Why this goal matters: This deadline is a big deal because it’s the first time this year we’ll report our fundraising to the Federal Election Commission. If our fundraising numbers are low, it sends a bright flashing light to our extreme GOP opponent and to national Republicans that we’re in trouble. It also directly impacts some big budget decisions we have coming up.

What decisions we need to make: One of our strategic advantages last cycle was how early we invested in grassroots organizing, especially latino outreach. It meant we spoke to voters early and often (and in-language). I absolutely want to make that early field investment again. However, that hiring is dependent upon us hitting this end-of-quarter goal.

Other considerations: Outside money is always a huge threat in this toss-up seat. After a new poll showed us down by 4 points, we’re expecting to face at least six figures (or more) in attack ads. We have to match the Republicans dollar for dollar in spending in order to combat their negative ads. If they spend $500,000 on attack ads against me, we have to spend $500,000 back. It’s that simple.

What I need from this team: Well, I need your help hitting this important fundraising goal! If we fall short, the GOP will have a huge advantage because we won’t be able to get our field organizing started or have enough resources to fight back against their negative ads.
