Here are some updates.
* A federal judge in New Jersey ruled ([link removed]) in favor of U.S. Senate candidate Andy Kim (D) and blocked the state's controversial "county line" ballot design for the primaries.
+ The now-blocked design places candidates endorsed by county party leadership in a preferred column.
+ Earlier this month, New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin (D) called ([link removed]) the law unconstitutional and declined to defend it.
* The Republican National Committee filed ([link removed]) a lawsuit seeking to require Michigan to adopt stricter rules for verifying signatures on absentee ballots ahead of the 2024 elections. This is the fifth restrictive voting lawsuit filed by the RNC this year and the second in Michigan.
Here’s what to expect coming up.
* On Monday, trial will begin in a federal challenge to Florida’s voter suppression law Senate Bill 7050, which limits mail-in voting assistance and imposes penalties on voter registration organizations. Here's what you should know. ([link removed])
+ Following the enactment of S.B. 7050, voting and civil rights groups filed three separate federal lawsuits challenging various aspects of the law for violating the U.S. Constitution and Voting Rights Act.
+ In July 2023, a federal judge temporarily and permanently blocked certain provisions of the law for violating the U.S. Constitution.
* The Minnesota Supreme Court will hear oral argument in a lawsuit filed ([link removed]) by a conservative group challenging two recently enacted laws that restored voting rights to over 50,000 residents on parole, probation or community release due to a felony conviction.
* Monday is another order day for the U.S. Supreme Court. We’re still on the lookout for a congressional redistricting case in Arkansas ([link removed]) .
