Dear friend,
I extend my deepest gratitude for everyone who supported us on this campaign.
Although we did not advance to the general election, I’m proud of the organizing work we did together and how our message resonated not just here in Los Angeles, but across the nation.
We ended up 5th out of 15 candidates for this open seat—just a few percentage points behind two longtime legislators in LA City Hall and the California State Senate, and far ahead of several candidates who raised over a million dollars. We raised just over $100,000.
I’m proud to have been the first and only elected official in this race to have called for a ceasefire, and as a Jewish person I stand hand in hand with other Jewish people who refuse to let our religion and the Holocaust be used to justify an occupation that has led to conflict for so many innocent people.
This campaign has never been about me, but all of us. It’s my hope that this campaign has inspired other progressive leftists to run for office, regardless of the odds.
Representation matters, and I know we’ve cleared the path for a trans person to eventually be elected to congress. The fight for universal healthcare, housing for all, tuition-free college, environmental justice, racial justice, LGBTQIA+ rights, tenants’ rights, labor rights, economic equity, and a ceasefire now continues.
From the bottom of my heart: to our voters, grassroots donors, Chloe our fabulous campaign manager, Spencer our digital marketing manager, Lena our finance director, Lalo our graphics person, and our countless volunteers, I THANK YOU and I won’t stop fighting for all of us.
I truly can’t find the perfect words to express my endless gratitude for putting your support and trust in our campaign. While I may be laying low for a while to rest and consider my next chapter, be assured that you haven’t seen the last of me!
Love & Gratitude,
Maebe
