Dear John,

Typically, I write you asking for assistance with my campaign for Congress. However, today, I will instead reflect on the important commemoration those of the Christian faith observe as we reflect on the ultimate act of life and sacrifice demonstrated by Jesus Christ.

On Good Friday, Christians remember God's grace and promise of redemption. As many of you know, my father, John Maher, is the pastor at Calvary Chapel Church in Tulare. I grew up in the church. Easter weekend, beginning with Good Friday, has always been a special remembrance for our family, culminating in the Sunday Easter celebration.

The faith that my wife and I have and are now nurturing in our two boys, is essential to who we are. Our Constitution protects religious liberty, not just for Christians but for people of all faiths. It is one of our fundamental rights and one we must protect and preserve. So today, I want to take this opportunity to wish all of you a very happy and blessed Easter weekend.

Thank you, as always, for your support and prayers. Let's celebrate the freedom, right, and opportunity we all have to gather and worship.

About: Michael Maher grew up in Tulare County where he owns and operates a Central Valley based aviation business. Maher’s parents settled in Visalia, where his father still serves as a local pastor. His wife Anne comes from a local multigenerational farming family and they have two children.

Maher is a United States Navy veteran, and served abroad the USS Salt Lake City, a Los Angeles Class Fast Attack Submarine. Following the Navy, Michael graduated from Fresno Pacific University and then was accepted and graduated from FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Michael served as a Special Agent for the Bureau working in the National Security Division. Additionally with the FBI, Maher was the Counterproliferation Coordinator for the Los Angeles Field Office which included responsibility in supervision of Chemical Weapons Inspections.
