Hi Friend,
It’s hard to believe that 14 years ago, the Affordable Care Act was signed into law. It was one of the most hard-fought and memorable victories of my legislative career.
Passing the law was a transformational moment for our health care system. Young people could stay on their parents’ health insurance until 26, insurance companies were banned from discriminating against people with preexisting conditions, Medicaid coverage was expanded around the country.
I also remember that in the years following the passage of the ACA, Republicans did everything in their power to repeal it. They were just a single vote away in the Senate from repealing the law that protected so many people. And now Donald Trump is again threatening to repeal the ACA if he wins the election.
President Biden is working to expand access to health care. Democrats worked together to finally pass drug price negotiation for Medicare, cap the price of insulin, and more. We can build on those successes, but if Donald Trump and congressional Republicans win in November, they’ll work to strip back that progress we’ve made.
That’s why we must work hard this year to keep the White House and Congress blue.
Let’s do this,
Peter
