John,
As Women’s History Month comes to a close, I’m committed to creating a more just and equitable world for women—from the U.S. to Palestine.
At this month’s State of the Mama in Washington, DC, I joined legislators and Detroit’s Mothering Justice to discuss the urgent need for policies that support mothers and families, including access to affordable childcare, paid family leave, Black maternal health, and reproductive justice.
I founded and co-chair the Congressional Mamas’ Caucus to focus on policies like these, because mothers of color and working class parents have been left behind.
For example, more than 30 million U.S. workers do not have access to a single day of paid leave. That includes 67% of low-wage workers, most of whom are women and people of color. Most Americans still live paycheck to paycheck and can’t afford to lose their jobs.
We know that the quickest way to end poverty and homelessness is by getting money directly into people’s pockets. That’s why I’ve introduced policies like the End Child Poverty Act, which would provide families with a $428/month payment per child.
My new bill, the Youth Homelessness Guaranteed Income Pilot Program Act, would provide direct cash assistance as well. Young people with lived experience helped craft the bill to ensure that it meets the real needs of our unhoused neighbors.
In the richest country in the history of the world, our communities should have what they need, like access to housing and clean water. I will continue demanding our government stop sending billions of dollars to weapons contractors and the Israeli military, and instead invest in our communities.
I’m committed to making the bold changes that marginalized women and families deserve. Will you help build power in Congress to create a more equitable future by donating $5 or more to my re-election campaign today?
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your secure donation will go through immediately:
This year, my team and I helped secure funding for important community projects in our district, including more than $1.1 million in federal funding to support a local group building affordable supportive housing for girls and young women experiencing homelessness.
With your support, I will continue fighting for the residents of my district and for all families.
Thank you so much,
Rashida
