[1]U.S. Senator Chris Murphy
I know I’ve reached out more than usual ahead of Sunday’s FEC deadline, so before I ask again, I thought you deserved an explanation. So here it is:
I love this job. Every single morning I wake up with the opportunity to do work that will hopefully help people realize the dreams and the aspirations they have for themselves and for their families.
I wish I could spend all my time working to pass legislation that will increase wages, or reduce gun violence, or lower health care costs.
But the truth is I have to take my re-election seriously as well. For one, my constituents deserve to know that I’m putting in the work to earn their vote. But also, in a world where Republican billionaires and corporate interests can spend limitless sums against our movement, I have to be ready for anything.
That means I have to spend time raising money to fight back. For most members of Congress, this often looks like hour after hour in call time — sitting in a windowless room calling up donors and asking them for campaign contributions. It can make you feel more like a telemarketer than a Senator.
But I am still determined to give as much of my time to the work you elected me to do. That’s the best chance I have to deliver meaningful change for your family.
So I have made a bet that I can spend almost all my time legislating because you will step up and help fund my campaign. But it does mean I have to lean on you a bit more for support — especially on days like this. So with two days until the FEC deadline, I need to ask:
Will you please consider making a donation of $ASK or whatever you can afford? The fights we’ve won — and the fights we will win — have only been possible because people like you who share our values pitched in to make it happen.

Emails like this and the small-dollar donations I receive are the primary driver of fundraising for my campaign.
Your support allows me to really focus on the work you want me to do, and it helps me be a better Senator. Thank you.
Every best wish,
Chris Murphy
