Infrastructure Matters More Now Than Ever

In light of the tragic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, we voiced strong criticism towards the Biden administration for neglecting to ensure states receive ample funding for infrastructure maintenance. We highlighted the dire outcomes of insufficient investment, stressing that despite substantial spending bills, critical infrastructure needs like bridge upkeep are neglected. It's evident that urgent action is needed to address our crumbling infrastructure, and accountability rests with the administration for failing to prioritize essential projects and allocate sufficient resources. It's time to halt excessive spending on initiatives like the Green New Deal and focus on essential infrastructure investments.

How the $1.7 trillion infrastructure bill truly impacts the Lowcountry:

  • Only a little over $110 billion out of $1.7 trillion was allocated to traditional roads, bridges, or surface transportation nationwide.

  • Within that $110 billion, $70 billion was designated for public transportation. Leaving only $40 billion for roads and bridges spread throughout the entire United States.

  • Presently, in the Lowcountry, both the Wando Bridge and the Don Holt Bridge require replacement or repair, which is anticipated to cost the state of South Carolina $1 billion dollars each.

  • The state of South Carolina only got $1 billion extra out of the $1.7 trillion bill over a five year period despite the Administration’s deceptive claims that we get $6 billion.

With two more locations set to open in the Midlands and Upstate, this initiative is making a real difference in South Carolina's education landscape.
