John,
I’ve talked about women becoming abortion refugees, fleeing their state for lifesaving medical care.
I’ve talked about the threats doctors face in states where abortion is illegal, like in Texas where the punishment for performing or assisting in an abortion is life in prison.
Now there’s another inhumane consequence of Republicans’ anti-abortion laws, and this one is just as disastrous.
In Louisiana, women who experience a miscarriage where their water breaks are being forced to undergo C-sections because of the state’s extreme abortion ban. C-sections are MAJOR surgeries with numerous potential complications, far more risky than medications like mifepristone and misoprostol or routine, less invasive abortion procedures.
John, I can’t begin to imagine the pain of losing a child I’m planning for only to follow that up with a forced, invasive surgery, and women shouldn’t have to endure it, either. The loss of an expected child is hard enough without carrying a permanent scar and adding more pain to that trauma.
When I help Democrats flip the House this year, my first priority will be protecting women and passing a law codifying Roe v. Wade to end this medieval treatment of women that my opponent supports. Can you help me beat him and support my campaign today?
