Breitbart and Fox News have begun launching attacks against me, reviving some pretty gross and homophobic smears.

Extremists -- who back my NRCC-funded opponent -- are trying to spin my work supporting LGBTQ+ youth who deal with discrimination and isolation. Before I was in Congress, I volunteered on the boards of an LGBTQ community center and healthcare organization.

Now, they are attacking me saying a vote for me is a vote for a “groomer” and for the sexual perversion against children.

This is not the first time I’ve faced homophobia, and certainly not the first time I’ve battled this kind of gross hatred in my life.

I grew up in an era when scare tactics like these were commonplace. I knew then and I know now what it’s like to face bigotry. And I’m not going to let this defeat me.

My career in service is much bigger than just holding a House seat. This is about standing up to extremism and hate. It’s about actually holding onto some much-needed decency in the halls of Congress. That's a big reason why I'm here, and it's why I need your support — especially right now:
