Hello, everyone~
350 Chicago is re-launching the Education Committee as a distinct entity starting now. We are looking for people to join this committee and help us educate Chicagoans, Illinoisans and many more on the existential threats of the climate crisis.
My name is Rich Foss, 350 Board VP, and I will be heading this committee. I have lots of ideas of what we can do on this committee, but I'd love to hear from you and what your ideas are. As always, if you volunteer for 350 Chicago, YOU decide your time commitment. I know we're all busy with work, family, etc., but we need people to step up and do the work or this crisis will overrun us all. So if you have two hours a month, or 10 hours a week, and are interested in education, please send me an email with "Education Committee" in the subject line.
Here are some of my initial ideas of what we might do:

Continue with the Monthly Speaker Series
- Hold film screenings/discussions of important climate crisis films
- Hold
live forums in particular Chicago neighborhoods to help educate people
on the coming IRA financial incentives for installing fossil fuel free
appliances, like heat pumps, water heaters, in addition to solar and EVs
etc. This is a big project and we need a lot of help with it. We all
know the news is not going to let people know about these incentives.
Lower income people will be able to get many of these appliances at more
than half the price.
- Develop educational materials we can host on our website: fact sheets, for instance, videos, on various climate change topics
- Develop educational materials teachers can use in their classrooms
- Create
short documentary style educational films on important climate crisis
topics to share on our website, YouTube Channel, Newsletter etc.
