Please join us in lifting up our communities, state, and nation in prayer as we thank God for sending his only Son to live, die, and rise again for us. May God bless you and your family this Easter! As Romans 6:8-10 says: "Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God." May God bless you and your family this Easter! Schumer Needs to Take Up Mayorkas Impeachment Articles I joined Speaker Mike Johnson and the House impeachment managers in sending a letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer calling on the Senate to expeditiously schedule an impeachment trial of Department of Homeland Secretary (DHS) Alejandro Mayorkas, following the House’s vote to approve two articles of impeachment against Secretary Mayorkas. We also announced that we will transmit the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate on April 10th when the Senate comes back in session. Any Senator who votes to dismiss the impeachment articles is dismissing the cries of millions of Americans who have been negatively impacted by the border crisis. Senator Chuck Schumer must hold a thorough trial that lays out the evidence on why Secretary Mayorkas deserves to be impeached for his role in the catastrophic border crisis. Watch here or below for my full remarks from the U.S. House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this year marking up the impeachment resolution for Secretary Mayorkas. Israel is Our Greatest Ally in the Middle East I penned an op-ed along with Congressman Don Davis and Michael Makovsky, the President and CEO of the Jewish Institute for National Security of America (JINSA). While Israel is fighting the Iran-backed terrorists of Hamas, the United States needs to stand firm with our ally. Instead, there are growing calls for President Biden and Congress to condition aid to Israel. This would be a grave mistake. Read more in the Washington Examiner here or below. Investing in Mental Health Resources for Our Communities I introduced the Early Action and Responsiveness Lifts Youth (EARLY) Minds Act this week to address the growing mental health crisis in the United States. This crucial bipartisan legislation aims to provide early intervention and prevention services to children and adults struggling with mental health challenges. The bill seeks to empower states by allowing them to allocate a portion of their mental health funding towards prevention and early intervention initiatives. This strategic allocation of resources is critical in identifying and supporting Americans before their mental health challenges escalate. Research consistently demonstrates the effectiveness of early intervention in mitigating the severity of mental health challenges among children and adults. I am proud to introduce this legislation to support youth and adults in our communities for mental health resources. Read more here. Texas-11 Medal of Honor Heroes This week we commemorated National Medal of Honor Day — honoring the remarkable Americans who earned the Medal of Honor based on their acts of courage and selflessness. Two of these exemplary heroes from Texas-11 grew up in Odessa: United States Marine Corps Private First Class Alfred “Mac” Wilson and United States Army Staff Sergeant Marvin R. Young. Private First Class Wilson and Staff Sergeant Young both sacrificed their lives to save their fellow service members in the Vietnam War. Wilson threw himself on a grenade after braving enemy fire to help hold off an overwhelming enemy force. Young’s platoon leader was killed after his unit came under heavy fire. Young assumed command and endured multiple wounds, yet stayed behind and continued to provide covering fire so his platoon could escape. Both were posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for their actions. Our men and women in uniform sacrifice and serve our country with honor and integrity. Join me in remembering and honoring these heroes. National Vietnam War Veterans Day Today marks National Vietnam War Veterans Day. Recognized annually each year, this day is dedicated to the thousands of surviving veterans who served in the Vietnam War. We are grateful to have the Concho Valley Vietnam War Veterans Memorial, situated outside of San Angelo in Texas-11. The memorial honors 48 soldiers from 15 counties within the Concho Valley who gave the ultimate sacrifice defending our country. It is also a tribute to the many veterans who returned home. You can learn more about the monument and memorial here. Thank you to all of our veterans and active duty service members for serving our country! Their sacrifice and heroism will never go unnoticed. Town Halls in Mertzon and Sterling City I will be hosting Town Halls in Mertzon and Sterling City next week. I would love to see you there! Chairman Jim Jordan in Odessa I am holding a Town Hall style meeting with special guest Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) in Odessa. I hope you can join us!
